Solstice Sojourn

Autumn’s leaves glide down
Yellow, Red and Gold
Nature’s fragmented parchment
Guileless messengers they be
Dying and dead…decomposing
Gloriously preceded by
Springtime’s symphony of life
Having completed its roaring crescendo and
Summer, circumnavigating its antediluvian arc
Solar fingers reaching through ebon void
Bearer of life…courier of death
Now, lengthening shadows stand sentry
Guarding the threshold to winter
Resplendent winter of gossamer glaciers
And icicles descending as ashen beards
The perdurable circle once again complete
And I, failing, fading, finite…await
As my whiskers grow hoary
Upon a withering, aging canvas
With perpetual companion pain reminding me that
The flower of youth hath lost its petals
Delights of summer’s sun hath forever rescinded
And mine own December, frightening and final
Stretches her immutable arms, to hearth and heart
Anticipating our first…and only embrace
