Counter-Clock Lies

I often wonder ‘bout the day before
Columbus stepped on foreign shore
Or young woman become’s paralyzed
And dreams she’ll never realize
In the hours prior to December 7
A Kansas boy was pre-marked heaven
The laughing, carefree teen-age crowd
Their screams of horror before car plowed
Native-Americans on their holy ground
Afore the conquering white man’s sound
The day before, the day before
How many have prayed for one chance more
The frigid cold of Siberian Ice
The girl you loved showered by rice
The parting kiss…the last good-bye
The sudden loss…the questions why
If time is fluid…if time is sliver
And we all must traverse the same river
Instead of heartbreak, death and war
Why can’t we swim…to the day before?
