Say Cheese

I’ve misplaced my smile, ‘tis been quite a while
Since hearty laughter came forth from my mouth
Middle aged and doleful constitutes trial
My hope flows North whilst my mirth travels South
With trepidation…stern consternation
I face each new day face crafted like stone
Untold tribulation…lasting damnation
The man who so grieves is the man alone
Toothy young people with infectious grins
Attempt to inject some joy in my veins
I stroke on my gray beard hiding two chins
With falsely curled lips concealing my pain
My smile’s been redrawn ‘tis now upside down
Wiser, sadder… a perpetual frown
